Back in 2018, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios (the developers of the Yakuza series), released a game called Judgment, an action-adventure title where protagonist Takayuki Yagami attempts to solve a string of strange murders. Now, a new Judgment game may be in the works, according to a leaked video from Sega.
The video itself doesn’t show much, as it’s a ten-second clip of someone whispering in Yagami’s ear about something. There’s also no recorded dialogue, or subtitles, so we have no idea of what the other guy is saying, either. We don’t even know if this is legitimate, so for now people should take it with a grain of salt.
It does appear to be legitimate, however, or at least something Judgment-related is coming soon. Sega’s America branch has posted a video on YouTube that is slated to go live on May 7, so if there’s going to be any newly-released information on a new Judgment game, it will likely happen then.
Considering how well Ryu Ga Gotoku’s flagship Yakuza series has been doing in terms of popularity in recent years, one can only hope that Judgment approaches the same heights of popularity for being on the other side of the legal spectrum. The first game received positive reviews and was also a commercial success, with some even claiming it as one of the best games of 2019.
There’s no telling what a sequel may involve, if it does turn out Sega is intending to announce one. We’ll obviously see a new story, of course, with some new characters to interact with, but we’ll likely also see improved mechanics to some things that the original game didn’t hit right, such as the investigation mechanics, which in the first game were criticized as too simplistic.
Either way, if you were a fan of the first game, hopefully this new Judgment game will be able to draw in even more fans than before. You can play the first Judgment game on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
