A recent change to a LinkedIn profile has given us a hint that an unannounced MachineGames Project is in the works. Other than that, however, we have no information. The hint comes from the LinkedIn profile of Teemu Kivikangas, who shared on the site that he is the lead designer of the unannounced project.
MachineGames for the past several years has been mainly known for working on the rebooted Wolfenstein games, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, and Wolfenstein: Youngblood. Eight months ago, they were also announced to be working on an Indiana Jones game (which Kivikangas is also involved in).
Exactly what this new game is, however, remains to be seen. The unannounced game could very well be a Wolfenstein 3, though considering they’re developing the Indiana Jones game, it might be something entirely different and the studio is trying to branch out.
There’s no telling when we might actually be shown the new MachineGames game, either. While Kivikangas only recently added it to his LinkedIn page, there’s no telling how long it’s been in production for, if game development has only started, or if it’s far along enough that a trailer can be released.
If it does turn out to be something other than a first-person shooter, however, it could be very interesting, if done correctly. MachineGames had previously attempted to vary up its formula with Wolfenstein: Youngblood, only for that game to get lots of negative reviews due to the fact that enemies were leveled and thus players had to grind to be able to damage them.
If the studio is able to learn from its mistakes with Youngblood, whatever they do manage to make from the new MachineGames game will hopefully be a return to form. Until we actually learn what it is, however, all we can do is wait and see what MachineGames will actually come up with.
