As expected, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is going to have both Performance and Quality (Fidelity) Modes. While a PlayStation 5 exclusive having these two graphics modes isn’t something special, the question is, what FPS and resolution these modes are going to offer? According to Insider, The Snitch, Spider-Man 2 Fidelity (Quality) mode will run at 4K resolution with 30 FPS. This mode will feature Ray Tracing effects with some visual enhancements.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 performance mode on the other hand has been told to run at upscaled 4K resolution at 60 FPS. However, this mode won’t feature any Ray Tracing elements or visual enhancements. So Insomniac Games has taken the traditional route when it comes to offering graphics modes for Spider-Man 2 on PS5. Fans who were hoping for graphics settings like God of War Ragnarok might be a little disappointed however, we shouldn’t judge the product based on this information.
It seems like the current-gen consoles are already struggling to maintain 30+ FPS with 4k resolution for modern games. Starfield is another example where 4K is locked at 30 FPS. However, Starfield fans won’t have an option for a performance mode as Bethesda decided wanted to offer stable, smooth experience across the board. We will see if the rumored mid-gen upgrade of PS5 (or may be Xbox Series) would make any significant improvements to resolution and FPS.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the second biggest PlayStation 5 exclusive of 2023 after Final Fantasy 16. With Final Fantasy 16 already released; all eyes are now set for the release of Spider-Man 2. The game already has a lot of hype associated with it and from what we have seen so far, the game is looking great. The game is set to release exclusively on the PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.
