Fallout New Vegas 2 Supposedly In Very Early Talks At Microsoft

Fallout fans may get a chance to go back to one of the most notable locations in the Fallout games. A recent claim from Jeff Grubb on his Grubbsnax podcast says that Fallout New Vegas 2 is supposedly in the early talking stages at Microsoft. However, we don’t know if this is true.

It’s plausible, considering that with the acquisition of ZeniMax Online Media by Microsoft (and, by extension, Bethesda), that Obsidian will now be able to work on more Fallout games. But at the same time, it’s dangerous to get hype going before anything even really comes of such “news”.

Fallout New Vegas was the first Fallout game after Fallout 3, developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Taking players back to the series’ original stomping grounds of the western United States, the game took place in what was formerly Nevada as players are caught between the New California Republic, the raider nation of Caesar’s Legion, and the city of New Vegas.

Despite a great deal of bugs, New Vegas holds a special place in the hearts of many players for its story and writing, to say nothing of the worldbuilding itself, so a sequel to the game might drum up a lot of attention, if it’s actually true. Obsidian Entertainment was one of Microsoft’s many acquisitions the past few years, as well, so this is even more possible.

If Fallout New Vegas 2 is in fact coming, however, that also asks a question of exactly what it will be about. Fallout games haven’t been known to really take prior decisions into account, so exactly how the game will still fit around New Vegas and the Mojave remains a mystery for now.

Of course, again, this is all dependent on whether or not a sequel to the game is actually in development. Obsidian Entertainment has continued its trend of making RPGs since New Vegas, such as the Pillars of Eternity games and Tyranny, but they haven’t developed anything Fallout-related since New Vegas released in 2010.

Considering the greater experience and skill that Obsidian has gotten over the years from developing other RPGs, hopefully if a Fallout New Vegas 2 is actually coming, it will be one of the best Fallout games ever. Until we actually hear something legitimate, though, we have no choice but to treat it as a rumor.
