Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is one of the first new games coming to the Playstation 5, and the folks at Insomniac Games are making sure that Ratchet and Clank on PS5 is a whole other dimension apart from where the previous games have been, with plenty of new tech to help.
One of the main reasons for this is how the game’s main plot, showcasing a variety of different dimensions as the evil Doctor Nefarious uses his Dimensionator in his latest bid to take over the universe. While the series is no stranger to different dimensions, Rift Apart makes use of the Playstation 5’s stupidly fast solid state drive to be able to transition from one dimension to another without a loading screen.
Marcus Smith of Insomniac says “Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a game about dimensions and dimensional rifts, and that would not have been possible without the solid state drive of the Playstation 5.” But the different dimensions aren’t the only thing helping Ratchet and Clank on PS5 to look good.
Ratchet’s movement is now much more smooth and fluid and way more responsive as well, making him more agile than ever against the various gun-toting goons he has to fight throughout the game. The various cities and other landscapes of the game also benefit from the game, as a large number of NPCs, flying vehicles, and more can all be found throughout the game in places where they couldn’t be implemented before.
Ratchet’s weapons have also benefitted. “Since Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was built from the ground up for PS5, we have access to the broadest palette of techniques and the highest fidelity we’ve ever had for developing weaponry, and our signature creativity for exotic and unexpected weapon concepts is back in full force,” says Insomniac’s Mike Daly.
We’ve seen a wide variety of guns in the various gameplay previews, such as the Enforcer and Topiary Sprinkler, so it seems that Ratchet and Clank on PS5 will be a great opportunity for Insomniac to really flex their creative muscles, not just in weapons but everywhere else as well. The game will be coming out exclusively on the Playstation 5 on June 11.
