How to Fix Resident Evil Village Stuttering

Capcom’s biggest game of 2021, Resident Evil Village has just been released and its launch has been far from perfect. Some of players are reporting all kinds of performance issues with the game, like low FPS, crashes, audio-delays, and the worst of all, stutters.

Resident Evil Village Stuttering Fixes

If you’re one of those users that have been experiencing stuttering issues, then we’re here to help you out with this guide where we’ll be going over all the different methods you can use to fix your stuttering issues in Resident Evil Village.

Update your Graphics Card Drivers

If you haven’t updated your graphics drivers yet, you should do that before you do anything else to fix your stuttering problem in Resident Evil Village. If you have the NVIDIA GeForce Experience or the AMD Radeon Software, you can open it and easily update your drivers from there.

If you don’t, you can use these links to update your GPU drivers:

Turn off Ray Tracing

The best way to fix stuttering in Resident Evil Village is to turn off Ray Tracing in the game’s video settings. Ray Tracing is extremely heavy on your hardware, so it could very well be the cause of the stuttering your experiencing in the game.

Of course, your graphics quality will go down when you turn off Ray Tracing but the game will still look amazing either way. This fix works for all platforms like the PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.

You can also tweak other settings like Ambient Occlusion, Shadow Quality, Anti-Aliasing and Shadow Textures to further decrease stuttering and increase your frame rate. Make sure to tweak them one at a time so you don’t crash your game.

Change your Graphics Card Settings

You can also try adjusting your Graphics Card settings to fix your stuttering issue.

If you have an NVIDIA GPU, open up the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to “Manage 3D Settings”, then click on Program Settings and select Resident Evil Village. Now, make these following changes:

  • Anti-aliasing-FXAA – “Off”
  • Anti-aliasing-Gamma Correction – “Off”
  • CUDA GPUs – “All”
  • Low Latency Mode – Ultra.
  • Set Power Management to “Prefer Maximum Performance”
  • Shader Cache – “On” (Don’t do this if you have the game on SSD instead of HDD)
  • Set Texture filtering – Quality to “High Performance”
  • Triple Buffering – “Off”
  • Set Vertical Sync to “Use the 3D application setting”

For people with AMD GPUs, open up your AMD Radeon Software, go to the Gaming tab and select Global Graphics. Here, set the Graphics Profile to “eSport”. After that, make the following changes:

  • Radeon Anti-Lag : Disabled
  • Radeon Chill : Disabled
  • Boost : Disabled
  • Image Sharpening : Disabled
  • Enhanced Sync : Disabled
  • Vertical Refresh : Always Off

Close All Background Applications

Another way to fix stutters in Resident Evil Village is to close all unnecessary background applications while you play the game.

This includes app like your browser, Discord, Spotify and even the overlay software of your GPU. If you have these apps open in the background, they’ll be eating up your CPU’s power while you play the game. If your CPU usage reaches 100%, you’ll experience lots of stuttering in the game.

So, try to keep everything in the background closed while you play the game to avoid stuttering in Resident Evil Village.
