Granblue Fantasy: Relink is the first game in the series released for consoles (PlayStation). The game does have multiplayer elements, and naturally, players would want to play it with their friends, as co-op can be really fun when it comes to games like Granblue Fantasy: Relink. However, there is an issue which can create problems for some.
The issue is that Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s multiplayer is region-locked, and you won’t be able to play with your friends outside your region by default. For example, if you are US-based and your friend is from the EU or Asia, you won’t be able to play with him/her. It seems like Cygames has decided to make this decision to keep the multiplayer smooth. So, by default, if you are playing multiplayer, you will only be matched with players from your server and region.
Now, the question is, can we fix this region-lock issue? The answer is yes, you can. There are two ways to fix this issue:
- Use a VPN and connect to your friend’s region. This has been reported to solve the issue, and players have been able to play Granblue Fantasy: Relink multiplayer outside their region.
- If you have the game on Steam, you can change your download region by entering settings and downloads. You can select the region your friend is in and after changing the region, it will restart. After that, you can play with your friends in other regions. Again, since this is a workaround and you will be on a different server, lag and latency are bound to happen, but we believe that if you have a good internet connection, it should be playable.
Changing the region from Steam is a better option, as using a VPN might cause more lag than changing the region from Steam. Also, while the game has crossplay for PS4 and PS5, it doesn’t support crossplay for PC and consoles. Granblue Fantasy: Relink is now available for PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
