One of the many things that Playstation revealed during its first showcase last year that showed off the Playstation 5 was a game set in the Harry Potter universe, called Hogwarts: Legacy. Now, a recent leak has hinted we’ll be seeing a new trailer either this month or at the December Game Awards.
There has been a resurgence in Harry Potter media in the past several years after the release of the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” stage play and the first two movies in the five-film long “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” series. Hogwarts Legacy, however, is the first true Harry Potter video game seen in years.
Most of the time the video games were just adaptations of the films, but Hogwarts Legacy is an entirely new story, taking place in the 1800s, over a century before the books even begin. Players take on the role of a transfer student to Hogwarts, exploring the world’s greatest wizard school while also fighting an unseen threat.
While we did see a bit of what could be called gameplay in its original trailer, there’s no telling what the game actually looks like. If we do get a new trailer sometime this month or during the Game Awards, hopefully it will have a good amount of gameplay in it for fans to see.
If the game does get a trailer this month as hinted at, it would at least be somewhat thematic; the series began at midnight on October 31, so it would be thematic to attach such a date to the game, if Avalanche Software, its developer, actually will put out a trailer then, or in December.
Either way, if we are getting a Hogwarts Legacy sometime in the next few months, hopefully the game will be a worthy successor to previous Harry Potter console games, or even better. The game will be releasing sometime in 2022 on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, Xbox Series X, and Playstation 5.
